I have a friend who's building a solid body 5 string fretless to be used with nylon strings.
Now, he either wants humbuckers to handle the job, in which case, what should he look at?

But I suggested he go with an acoustic bass style bridge with the piezo underneath the saddle...but am not knowledgeable enough to suggest a particular one.

Any help on either front?

You have to use a piezo pickup as the nylons strings will do nothing for any magnetic pickup.

As to what pickup to use, anything made to go under the saddle of whatever bridge you choose will work, along with some other types of pickups, such as the various products made by L.R. Baggs or Fishman. If it were me I would contact Rick Turner, he make s a great under saddle pickup and, along with Seymour Duncan, some nice electronics for it. These are just some suggestions, there are other types of pickup systems out there, do some research.
