I know a high school guy going, and heard that 3 IU people are going. Don't know about the fifth person.

I did NYSOS in 07. It is so great!!!!!!!!

Anybody know how many people usually audition? I've never auditioned yet because I hear its rediculously competitive (that and I'm a little turned off at the fact its durning christmas ).

I don't know how many people usually try out. My guess would be, for bass, maybe around 50? They take a section of 5 players.

of the 250 auditionees this year the committee in their infinite wisdom decided to grant only Ben Harris acceptance. the young virtuoso played with such voracity that jamie laredo deemed four supporting bassists unnecessary

The high school guy going is Nate Paer. He did it last year, too. I don't know who from IU is going, and I don't know anything about the 5th person at all. It's gonna be a great program this year!

My 3 IU guys, Mr. Banzhaf, Mr. Tosky and Mr. Metcalf. You know Nate Paer and then the fifth is Ben Crofut, from Eastman.

I just registered on talk bass to sell an instrument and thought to comment on this thread...

NYSOS was a great experience, I definitely recommend that everyone here who is eligible should audition. I certainly will try and go back next winter.
