Here's a semi-related story. I testified as an expert witness on six separate days on a civil case in an L.A. court (6th and Commonwealth). It was a long trial (three weeks or so). The case went to the jury, and they deliberated for three and a half weeks, then came back with a complete defense verdict - no monetary award. When asked when the jury had its mind made up, the jury foreman said, "We were at 98 percent when we entered the deliberation room." When asked why they were out for so long, she said, "Most of us are public servants on full pay and we didn't want to go back to work." At least she was honest.
Anyway, that's the same jury pool that found O.J. not guilty (although this one got it right). I don't think there were any brain surgeons on either jury.
Side note: In the civil case I mentioned, the judge immediately ordered retrials for two of the defendants and entered a judgement against the third, throwing out the jury's verdict (he was an obvious plaintiff's whore from the very start). The plaintiff's attorney told the two defendants, "If you each give me $400,000, I won't retry the case." The defendants' insurance companies paid it.
Oh fudge. I guess I just made your point. LOL.
Supplemental side note: That courthouse is right in the middle of Koreatown, where the Rodney King riots took place. That is all.
