obp 3 extreme battery drain

I'll start off by saying that I am not leaving a cord plugged in to the bass. Two 9 volts aren't cheap. I had less than three hours of play time on the last new set. They died in two or three weeks with the bass in the case. Is there any reason they would be dying. Maybe a bare wire or something?
I have had the preamp for four years this is a new problem.

Sounds like a short. Look over the wiring and see if everything is in order, then check the current draw with and without a cable in the jack. When plugged in, the current should not exceed a couple of milliAmps. When unplugged, the current should be zero.

99% of the time when this happens it's a faulty output jack not turning off the preamp when the bass isn't plugged in.
