Seems simple enough. I'm looking for a good bass octaver, mainly to get a thicker sound in my band (we have no guitarist) for that sort of "big chorus" sound. Mainly what I want it to be able to do is to make a power chord an octave up from what I'm playing. Coupled with my overdrive pedal I think this would sound pretty badass when applied at the right time. Aside from that main desirable feature, I'd like it to be able to generate a note two octaves up for rediculously high, upper-guitar fret range solos, and the ability to make non-power chords as well would be a nice feature. Does such a pedal exist, or is this just a figment of my imagination? Price isn't a huge factor, I'd pay top dollar for something that could do all those things, but under $200 would be great. I really have no idea where to start when it comes to pedals, so any advice would be great.

Ah. The EHX HOG will do it. Expensive, and with tonnes more features than that, but I don't know of anything else that will do it. You could maybe get that out of two pedals (an octave up on say a Micro POG and the extra 5th on a Whammy) but then you've got to mix them back together and you'll probably end up paying the same... :D If all you wanted was octaves a POG could do it, but for the extra 5th you'd need the HOG.

+1 to the HOG. It really is the balls of octave-type pedals IMO. But, if all you want is an octave, it will be a lot of extra stuff you wont need.

If you do the POG or micro POG with a whammy you'll also be making octaves of the fifth (or fifths of all your octaves depending on how you order them). From my experience, the Whammy IV is good, but not great below low A. But if you're playing higher you can always add some low end with the down octave of the POG.

FWIW I have a "rhythm guitar" setting saved on my HOG that is exactly my original signal plus a power chord above. Makes it nice and thick, especially with some overdrive.

That HOG sounds shmexy. That really is the exact pedal I'm looking for, plus more that I'm sure I'll find to be useful.

EDIT:

Holy ****! I just watched the demo video for that then and had a orgasm! It does the exact thing I want it to do, PLUS it's got whammy and synth, which are things I've been eying for a long time but wasn't planning on buying. Thanks for pointing me in that direction guys!

If you do decide to get one, its not worthwhile without the optional foot controller which allows you to save 6 presets. You can find them packaged together on ebay usually for less than the price of a new HOG (i got mine with the foot controller and a roland expression pedal for $430)

There is a clip in the Talkbass WIKI of me accomplishing this with the full-size EHX POG. Not a full power chord, its missing the 5th. For that, you'd need a HOG (which I have now acquired). Here is the clip:
