Official AIMS Amps Thread

Hi everyone. I acquired an Aims Personalized Vocal Sound System from Arizona, and I'm 98% finished working on it, but I need the color code of 2 resistors.

The resistors are right in between the 12AT7 and (ground/chassis of the) first 6550 tube. Mine are burned out and I want to replace them. The one resistor goes from the 4&5 pin of the 12AT7 and goes to the ground of the 6550; the other resistor goes from the #9 pin on the same 12AT7 and goes to the other ground on the 6550 tube mount.

Can someone please help me by letting me know the value of two resistors on the Aims Personalized Vocal Sound System?

p.s. just look at the mid-lower right of the picture where you see a burn mark behind 2 vertical resistors.

Hello there! Tomorrow I'm going to check out a AIMS VTB-120 bass amp thats for sale on craigs list. They are asking $600 for it. Based off what I read here I feel like that price is to high? I'm getting it to play violin in a band with 2 guitarist's, bassist, organ, flute and drummer so it needs to be loud. Is there a question(s) you recommend asking? Here is the ad [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

I know this thread is a bit old, but I have a very nice Aims VTB-120 for sale if anybody is interested. Here is my CL ad:
Vintage 1970's Aims VTB120, 2 channel bass amp. All tube- 120 watts, just serviced, looking and working great. It has been re-capped, has had the power cord replaced with a 3 prong cord so no danger of being shocked and has been completely gone through to be sure it's ready to rock. It has a new, matched pair of Shug 6550s, (high quality, true GE 6550a copy made on the machines that made the originals), in the power section. 4 tubes in the preamp. This amp has a warm & golden tone that sounds great for bass & would make a sweet guitar amp. Needs nothing; just plug in and play. Aims did a good job with this one. It's in excellent shape for its age. Email for more info.
Thanks,
Dan
I couldn't get the photos of the amp to upload, but if you want to see a few of them, email me.

Hey everyone...wanted to join in on the AIMS thread, too, since there is limited information available on these amps. I picked up an ~1972 AIMS VTG-120 about a month ago in amazing, all original condition. It the "personalized guitar: 6x10 at 120 RMS model. It appears not to be used much at all and must have been stored for 30+ years. It even had the schematic!

The tubes alone are incredible...Tung-Sol 6550s, Mullard 7025s & 12AT7s. Speakers are Eminence 10" alnico.

All I've had to do so far is clean all the pots and surface corrosion, plus the dust. I know I need to re-cap the electrolitcs, but the more I play it the better it sounds.

Once I get authorized for attachments, I'll post some pics and the schematic

Just wanted to chime in. I bought an AIMS Producer a little over a year ago. Tested it out on my Ampeg 210 and it sounded nice, so I bought it. Took it over to my band's space and played it through the Ampeg 410, and it sounded nice - for a little while. It started crackling and popping, and then there were feedback issues mostly centered around the treble knob.

I had a guy I know check out the amp and we identified that the preamp tubes were quite loose in their sockets. So I replaced the sockets and the crackling and popping went away! However, the feedback still occurs. It's not horrendous, but when we stop playing you can hear the feedback start to slowly build up. This might be an issue with the space we're playing in though, rather than an issue with the amp. Also my amp isn't nearly as loud as the OPs - I no longer play it because it doesn't keep up with the rest of the band. Well, it can kinda keep up but I have to push it and the breakup doesn't sound very good. It sounds kinda farty when I push the amp.

I like the tone when playing at lower volumes, but don't like it at higher volumes. I was just about to sell the amp when I bought a guitar - now I think I'm going to use it as a guitar amp. I haven't been able to try it out yet because I loaned it to a friend. But does it make sense that there will be more clean headroom when used with a guitar, rather than a bass? Anyone have any cab suggestions (I know this is a bass forum, but surely some of you also play guitar)? There's a Vox 412 with Wharfdales that I'm eyeballing, but I don't really know much about guitar cabs...

Got another question - will the Aims Producer work with a stereo-wired cab? The Vox I'm looking at is wired 8 ohms in stereo (two inputs). I don't know anything about stereo cabs, but it appears I'd have to use two cables from the head to the cab in order to use it as an 8 ohm cab. I recall the back panel of the amp has the normal out (5 ohms), and an "additional speakers" out. Could I plug each of these into the 8 ohm stereo ins on the cab?

Otherwise the cab is wired 16 ohm mono, which won't work with the 5 ohm head.

BTW - my head is the same that faceinbass posted at the top of page 2.

Thanks!
