I'm using the S12 with a Markbass F1 and a Thunderfunk 750-A.

At first, I felt strange with the S12. I used it with jazz basses, and at first it sounded too quick with the Markbass F1 flat, and I was having troubles to get a warm sound.



One of the things that caused this is that I was very used to the sound of my Markbass 121 CMD and my Barefaced Compact. Now, I play a lot with the S12, and when I take the Markbass, I feel that sounds muddy.


In resume, if I use the S12, I can get a sound from my cab very similar to what I'm sending to the PA, what I think it's good. With the Markbass, the sound from the PA and the amp are very different, and generally I can't ask for mic the combo, or I'm not sure if the engineer is really engineer (I mean if he is good), so I preffer send a signal that I know I like it.


If you reproduce a CD through it sounds awesome flat. The only flaws I can say is the speakon only connection, and that now I don't like how sounds my Markbass, I need buy a Midget!!!!!

I definitely don't think a Midget will work for everybody, but here's my experience.

The regular soul/country/psychedelic band reserves the PA for acoustic, vocals, and horns. 40W guitar amp, 100W keys combo, drums and bass are all backline only. Midget's coped fine, every single time, so far.

Did a rock'n'roll dep a few weeks ago. PA for vocals only, LOUD guitar, loud keys, drummer going for it. Again, the Midget was totally fine.

A friend borrowed the Orange/Midget for a blues gig, so I went along. Here the guitarist had a silverface Fender Super Six. Badass amp. Volume was okay standing near the front, but up against the back wall in the bright, bouncy room it was like undergoing some form of sonic interrogation technique. And the Midget was STILL fine.

Before ordering, I was all set on a Compact. I sent Alex soundclips, videos, a rig list, a letter. He said it sounded like a Midget would be ideal for me; I didn't really believe him but ordered one because with the great one-month return policy I could always change it for a Compact. (If I'd gone for a Compact first it would have done the job for sure, but I would simply have kept it, never knowing if a Midget would have worked.)

But Alex was right. As I've told him already, it's the best piece of bass equipment I've ever bought.

Oh, lordy, I can't wait to get something!:D Gotta wait for Probate to end, though.

While not an owner, the Barefaced website is a go-to for me for Alex's erudite yet very understandable essays on the physics of sound and how to best amplify bass. Too bad the one place in my town that carried "Bassist" magazine went out of business. I do hope Barefaced gets a larger representation in the States, their site was my gateway to learning about the fEARful/fEARless, AudioKinesis and Acme connections, too. And I think Alex has the best sense of humor of them all!

OK... I've been waiting 5 weeks, no problem there (estimate was roughly 6 - 8 weeks + delivery)

I read your review before - very solid and well written. This actually helped with my BFB cab choice. yup, going with th Big T. Thanks for the live song audio - very interesting material and superb sound. Very nice rig- love the Big T picture with the SL900 on top...
