Official Elrick Bass Club Thread...part 2!!!

I have an SLC and two other Elricks all with Aeros. One with 1/4” magnet p/j pickups, one with 1/4” magnet single coils. I’ve always been partial to how clean they sound compared to the coloration a Bart pickup gives a bass. Barts to me, have their own sound, Aeros, to me, have a clear sound that lets the wood of the bass sound come through.

Hey y’all… had a bolt on gold many years ago and just recently got this platinum

I have an Elrick Handmade NJS 4. I believe the nut is 40mm, 19mm string spacing and a thin C profile neck. It feels wonderful. One of my favorite basses I’ve ever played.

I have been playing fives only for a few years but recently got a 4 string again and tuned it to D standard. I have been loving it and thinking of checking out some high end 4 strings.

Is the neck on the NJS the same profile as the higher end gold and platinum etc?

I would assume so. Rob Elrick is very big about consistency in his basses.

Secondly who is using Elrick strings and why do you like them? Was thinking of trying a set as I haven't tried different strings in a long while
My Elrick basses get Elrick nickel strings. They have a great feel. The website talks about how they use a different sized core/wind. I don’t know about all that. I just really like the way they sound, feel and last.

I can say without any doubt whatever is stated as to the design & construction is legit. It was a work in process for him for at least a year or two prior to them hitting the streets

I've been using Pure Blues mostly for ages. Now I'm tuning down a whole step and want something stiffer as I don't like the sound of heavier gauges. Luckily I play with a light touch so Pure Blues 45-105 is totally playable in D standard for me but I can't dig in much which just isn't as dynamic. I'm hoping a stiffer hex core string in 45-105 will be better

For this that have tried the standard Bart J Coils vs the Bart dual coils, how would you describe the difference?
The J coils on my NJS sound like a souped up jazz bass. The soapbars on my evolution 5 are a bit thicker and more modern. Of course, much of that depends on pickup positioning too. If you can get duals with a coil tap, you might be able to get the best of both worlds… or really close.

I’ve owned both. They’re more similar than different. But all of the the MTD’s I’ve played have this zippy compressed high end. I’m assuming it’s in part to his proprietary preamp and pickup voicing. Robs basses kinda have some of that voice, but it’s not as prominent. His preamp and pickups have a unique sound that kinda sits somewhere between the MTD sound and more traditional voiced bass. As far as construction/fit/finish, both are at the top of their game. Robs basses don’t command the resale value on the used market MTD does. So a used Elrick is a better value. But don’t let the resale value fool you, Elrick are fully worth their new price. Rob can turn you a new bass in 12-16 weeks, and prob will be under 5k for a bolt-on with a nice top and finger board. I’m assuming the wait is longer and more expensive at MTD.
