Ohms conversion question

Hey all,

I read the post on the ohms conversion and wanted to make sure I have this right.

I have two speakers at 8 ohms and 100 watts.
If I plug it into an amp that is 4 ohms at 125 watts, the speakers will be okay just a little under-powered. Is that right?

Your two speakers in parallel will show the amp 4 ohms. It puts out about 125 at 4 ohms, so the combined 200 watts rating of the speakers is safe. You can still do damage to your speakers with too much low end eq.

Or, is your 2x cabinet 8 ohms? either way, this should be an ok combination, provided the amp is good at 8 ohms. most ss amps are if their minimum rating is 4. tube amps need to match what the output is marked for, though.

It's two separate speakers at 8 ohms/100 watts each.

Either way yer ok, just be kind to the speakers and don't try to eq in too much bass.

Should be good all around. Speakers have a maximum INPUT rating (in watts), amps have a OUTPUT rating to send to speakers. Your two 8 ohm cabs will make the 4 ohm minimum for the amp (the lowest number in ohms the amp was designed for). If the amp is SS (no output tubes) it will also be very happy with one 8 ohm cab (this is above the minimum number).
