Ohms FAQ

Don't keep pushing it. Get the wiring proper on the cab. The amp will only stand so many hits (protect and the strip popping is very bad) before it gives up and you'll be back to no amp to play ;).
I'm with ya my concern is I do what I'm supposed to ( check wiring , make sure ohms are good ) and still I pop amp. I kinda like this one. Anyway I'm being very cautious band I appreciate
 
Opening the protection breaker on the power strip is an indication of a serious and possibly amp damaging problem.

Do you have anybody locally who is technically minded that can look your situation over to see what might be wrong?

Yes, me I am a low voltage guy as well as a mechanic. But when it comes to some things it's best to check with others as well as manuals but I have had my manual contradict the back plate of cabinet. So now I now that they are both tombs parallel and I can go as low as 2 ohms I should be fine. But I also have our sound guy ( used to do sound for Boston) who I plan on brain picking as well. I amp dead number 2 I want to keep

I reworked wiring in cabinet. And it works but the volume is very low. If I plug into acoustic 410. All loud perfect, if I use gk 410 cabinet then volume drops considerably. Now parallel wiring question. Parallel is a fancy way of tying all red together and tying all black wired together so the ohms and power is split equally between all for 32ohm speakers? And second. How do you tell what side of speaker is positive there are no markings on spade connections. I think I may have a polarity issue now.

You can use a battery (like a 9volt or 1 1/2volt but you'll need two wires to use the 1 1/2volt). Touch the battery to the speaker or a 1/4" plug for the whole cab. When the cone moves out (away from the magnet) the positive of the battery matches the positive of the speaker. Some speakers use a red dot instead of a "+" to identify the positive (JBL speakers can be backwards so the battery is the best to identify). If you do the whole cab with a 9 volt at one time you can find any speaker miswired and just correct those (the smaller connection on a 9volt is positive).

Guys i need your help! Im planning to buy an aguilar tone hammer 350. Whats the maximum watts of bass cab and omhs to use for the aguilar tone hammer 350 using only 1 speakon?

There is no "maximum wattage" for bass cabs, that is the wattage they can accept FROM the amp. So Best not go lower than a 350 watt rated cab. You can use a 4 ohm cab or a 8 ohm cab and "daisy-chain" from the first cab to a second 8 ohm cab if you want for a 4 ohm total load (8 parallel with 8 ohms= 4 ohms). Do not use any load lower than 4 ohms (like two 4 ohm cabs chained together= 2 ohms) or the amp will either shutdown or smoke.

I hope I get this right.. meaning I can use 1 bass cab with 500 watts in 8ohms? Even if the watts from the head is less, it will not damage the head?

No possible way. You can damage a gallon jug (cab) with a half gallon of fluid (1/2 rated OUTPUT power amp). The amp will not output all 350 watts with an 8 ohm load though, most likely around 200 watts loaded with an 8 ohm load.

Speaker cabs don't "have watts", they are rated for what you can "pour" into them.

Speaker cab watt rating? You still not understanding? 8 ohm cab watts input maximum 10,000,000 watts. On the real side no cab rated under 400 watts for "best" safety factor.

You'll need to provide more info than just "punch" for a general cab matchup. There are hundreds of cab models that will have low end or mid-low end or midrange punch. You can choose from 2X10", 8X8", 1X12", 2X12", 4X10", 6X10", 4X12", 1X15", 2X15", 8X10". Mainstream companies like G-K, Ampeg, Fender, Aguilar, Mesa or specialty builders.
If it was my rig I would start off with a good 212 or 410 from G-K, Aguilar, Ampeg or Fender Pro.

Great post! Let me see if i got it: i'm buying a 420 watt head and my idea is to buy ONE cab, being a guy that likes loudness it is safer for me to buy an 8ohm cab than a 4ohm? obviously without putting the amp on 10, but playing LOUD.
The other question is, regardless i'm going for the 8 ohm or the 4ohm the VOLUME DIFERENCE i can achieve is not going to change too much is it?
