If you delete the files you should be fine. Someone would have to spend some effort on trying to get those files back.
Think about it, if they had thought you were doing something bad, they would have just told you before you quit. Why would they try to scoure the computer you used after you quit? Second, it takes money, time, and effort to recover the files that you delete. That's why it's not an every day thing.

Absolutly, if a utility such as DBAN was not used, and even then, partial data recovery is still possible.

When I worked for the state, the agency I worked for was still developing an internet use at work policy, so the rules were kind of hazy at the time. We would find some people who would spend five or more hours a day on non-work related sites. Since no firm rules were in place for discipline, we could only advise them that they should stop. I know, it's common sense, but people hide behind anything they can to get away with cheating on the job.
They have rules now, but there is a small percentage of people who do spend hours a day on non-work related websites.

It is. Realize too that those kind of searches for info are normally only conducted on people in suspicion of serious crimes. As in your case, police departments or other government agencies did those types of investigations.
As was mentioned, it is expensive to do that recovery work. A buddy of mine opened his own computer repair shop, and he charges $250 just to do one of those deep hard drive scans. If you want the info he finds, it's $100 or so an hour to get the info out. Your average employer would never spend that kind of effort to check out an employee they suspect of looking at some naked ladies on the internet.

HEY!!! I just thought of something. Somewhat related...(info retrieval). Back in college I did a series of essays on my girlfriends, "Brother" word procesor. Does anyone know of a way of retrieving this info on a PC. Cuz I know, noone with a "Brother" word processor.

This would probably be a really difficult conversion as the manufacturers back then purposely made their equipment proprietary. No PC drive would even see the disk in the drive. However, there may be some software available just for that purpose. Google would be the place to start.
