I plan on hosting a party, and apart from an average stereo I have nothing to deliver the wub wub. Could I plug an ipod into my ashdown mag 300 4x10? Would this cause any problems?

What nutdog said... I used to do the same with a Walkman, 2x HH V-S heads with a 4x12" and 2x15" cab respectively. Ah, those were the days.

  6. You can do it, just don't expect it to sound too HiFi.

  7. In the late 60s I recorded a lot of Steppenwolf on a reel to reel, then ran it directly into a Standel 100 watt 2x15 combo. Set it outdoors one day and had people several blocks away walking over. Might sound pretty good with today's gear!

Eh, it's a high school party, people want loud, it's not an audiophile convention. If it doesn't do any damage to the speakers I'm all for it.

You'd need a stereo-mono adapter. Otherwise, you'd only get one channel. Run through the return and use output for volume. Same as using a separate pre.

Depends on the genre. A lot
of styles have heavy electronic bass drums and sub bass frequencies. I'd be worried about important notes getting lost or, even worse, speakers farting out. A sub or big ol' full range cab would be much better suited for this job.

If you're really in a bind, you could always rent a couple of powered PA speakers.

If you do this, run through the preamp in/effects return, otherwise you get EQ on the whole deal that's designed to make basses sound good. Also you're only going to get a single channel (left or right) without some kind of mixer to sum the signal.

  12. I believe I-Pods like I-phones have a setting to sum the audio to mono before it leaves the device.

  13. This, and all of it. Single-channel audio from a stereo signal sounds god-awful and you really don't want that.

it should work, but don't expect much above lo-fi mush.

My amp seems to be able to handle my boss Rc-3, which has 2 instrument inputs and an input for an alternate audio source? Although.. I did have it all cranked a bit loud one day before starting one of the sample loops and it about gave me a heart-attack. I have never reacted to something so fast in my life.. those knobs were turned down faster than Superman could've done it.

It works. I've done that to have music while we did some work on our rehearsal room and had the PA stowed away with a carlsbro amp and my phone. Hifi ? nope. Loud? Yes.

In the late 60's while in college I used to occasionally put my Traynor YBA-1 and matching 2-15 cab in the window of my sixth floor dorm room overlooking the school's outdoor amphitheater and run a reel-to-reel tape deck thru it. It was amazing from how far away across the campus the complaints came in. Who'da thought 50 measly watts could get so loud and travel so far. Lo-fi for sure, but damn it sounded good outside. The first time I did it the campus cops were stumped as to where the sound was coming from. They thought a band was playing in the amphitheater (and partying did ensue). Those were the days. Now get off my lawn!!! :D:D:D
