I just saw an URB at the local GC FOR $800. It was a Meisel and comes with the stand. I searched and found only that way back in the day, they used to be good. Now, they're not what they used to be. I would like to get into playing URB, but don't wanna drop too much cash at the moment. Thoughts???

GC usually gives you 30 days to bring it back, and if that applies to this bass I'd buy it then bring it to a good luthier for a once over. If they give it a thumbs up your set, if not your covered.
You can very easily go wrong for that kind of money, or any amount.
OP, look for a label inside the body. By law, products sold in the US have to say where they are made. If the bass is German or Czech it should be ok. Bring it to a bass luthier for a once-over before the return period ends.

So all those Stradivarius plys I keep finding are real?
Labels get lost, replaced, and forged. I'm also not so sure you can say every bass made in Germany or the Czech Republic is quality.
I have no idea about Meisel, but I get nervous when the price dips into triple digits. You get what you pay for.
Yeah, I wasn't thinking it was all that great(compared to what is of quality), but atleast something I could start within the $800 area, instead of $1500 and up.
But the bass could easily need $500-$700 worth of work, which gets to $1500. If your not buying from a bass shop then expect set-up costs.
Not what I said at all. I said it should be ok, meaning it shouldn't self-destruct under string tension like other basses that sell for three-digit prices are reputed to do. Any bass that holds together has some promise.
And the day people start pirating Meisels, well, I don't know what I'll do. It would be like counterfeiting $5 bills. There's no point.
Unless I'm mistaken, the bass the OP is looking at is a Meisel E-Fusion which, from the pictures, looks gently used. The ones I've had in my hands haven't been bad instruments.
