Ya, the GoldenGlo series, Jon. Never played one but those in the Portaflex club who have them speak pretty highly of them.
Jut looked it up in the Ampeg book, and you're not only right about that, but the GoldenGlo's were tube amps, so I botched it all the way aroundThe GoldenGlo series were guitar amps only, IIRC, and had copper colored control panels, grillcloth and wacky "level" meters thrown in for good measure. The SS Portaflexes had backlit control panels, and would get hot enough to fry an egg on.

BTW, Jess Oliver said the same thing about those SS Portaflex heads. He wanted to add more heat sinking, but Everett Hull wouldn't let him. Still, I do know folks who are happy with them.
