Old bass - keep or sell?

I feel a little stupid about posting this, but I have mixed feelings about parting with my old bass, and I'm curious to see what people think.

I have 2 basses and I'm thinking of selling the one I don't use anymore. I'm in a band, we play some gigs, and for some reason I feel like I need to have a backup bass. I could probably get about $600 for the old bass, I don't play it anymore because I really prefer my newer bass (which is of equal value to the old one), and I would really love to have some new equipment (a more-portable amp and a pedal or two) but I just feel WEIRD about it. Thoughts or opinions?

But if you don't use a bass, and you have no attachment to it - sell it and pay down your credit debt.

Is the 'old bass' your FIRST bass if so, you may regret selling it down the road. Some folks, mainly old guys like myself, regret selling our first bass down the road. And the trouble is you may not feel that way now.

I took the step, and bought another body to use the neck off my old bass. I have sold the new body and I am rebuilding the old bass.

If you like the old bass AT ALL, do not sell it.

That is all.

If your doing paying gigs then it is a good idea to have a back up bass. That doesn't mean it has to be the one you have now. If you have no real emotional attachment to the bass then sell it. You can always buy a cheap backup like an SX and use the other money to put toward a new amp and pedals.

I hated my first bass, mostly due to my terrible set up I did when I was 15 which I played for 3-4 years and then swore it off.
now I'm 32 and luckily bumping into a buddy about 4 years ago and picking up a sweet Spector, than a P, and finally a Ric, I couldnt be happier

I dont miss my first bass at all

I'd rather let someone else use a bass that I have sitting around, than me not using it.

I have owned, played, and sold many basses over the years. I regret selling almost every one of them.

I hoarded a couple basses for sentimental reasons, but realized after a few years of them sitting in a bag, I’d rather see them doing what they were meant to do, with someone to appreciate them.

...I still know the guy I sold it to, and damn it if he won't sell it back to me.

Make sure you are 100% satisfied with sound and feel of new bass. If so.....sell, if not, keep. I kept my first and am glad I did.
