Old EON 15 GS vs New EON515s?

My new band has tagged me with choosing the sound system (Sadly none of us brought one from prior bands).
I think I'm satisfied with the JBL powered speaker sounds - primarily for vocals and monitoring at this point...
Question:
- Any major features/quality/performance issues between the JBL EON 15 G2 (last year's model) and the newer JBL315/515s? (the newest EONs)?
- Would seem like if you don't mind a few extra pounds, the EON 15 Gs would make better, more cost effective monitors than the newer EONs.
Anyone own either of these? We're going to use these primarily for vocal/mix monitors, and possibly later on as small venue FOH PA speakers.

I run a pair of 15 G2s and love them. I moved SRM 450s to the top of the PA and use the EONs for floor monitors. They are tough and sound great.

Say, thanks - They do look better suited for monitors than the newer EONs; not too much heavier. I've also read odd things about the newer ones not working well with some mixers.
