Not that I needed this, but I came across this old 90's (maybe 80's) Peavey 1x15 bass cab for cheap. I use to play one back in the day, so I thought, what the hell. $75 later I have a new cab. I'm still amazed at how heavy these old Peaveys are. But it and the cockroaches will be left after armageddon. Not worried about weight though. I'll donate it to my church and play though it a couple times a month....

those Peavey cabs are probably built out of MDF .. hence the weight. But those old cabs can sound pretty great with the right amp. A guitar player buddy of mine had a Peavey 1x15 TNT combo that sounded pretty darn good back in the day.
I recently grabbed an early 80's era Fender Fullerton 1x15 loaded with an EV 15L which sounds great too.

Peavey had a lot of odd expectations of folks back then, based on their handle placement.

Takes me back too - 2 of those cabs and a 100 pound rack mount amp/pre was my first big rig, circa 1982.
When I blew a cone (they did blow occasionally) you could buy a replacement basket cheap and bolt it to the old magnet.

Solid buy for $75.

I remember that as well. Peavey Probass preamp into a Peavey CS800. Biamped with highs to a 2x10 & lows to a 1x15. Damn that was a heavy rack.

I did, but not very far......Grabbed a hand truck to move it to its final location. I don't plan on moving it again.

That handle is perfectly placed for someone who is strong enough to carry two at once. For the situation where you need to people to heft one cabinet, or want to carry it by yourself, but aren't naturally counterweighted, not so much.

I once owned a Sound City 200 Plus head - an international model that had a 40Hz power transformer. The proper counterweight while carrying that in one hand was a band member in the other hand. Actually, I bought it used - tried it out on the cabinet the guy had it sitting on. I paid the guy for it, THEN lifted it. Nearly fell over. The guys hanging around the practice space all got a good laugh at my expense. I had about 200 feet to carry to my car. I put it down and changed hands several times during that distance.

While it sounded good, it never sounded nearly good enough to justify the weight. It was, however, a good value in terms of pounds per dollar spent.

I had a Mesa cabinet in the road case. Holy moly was that thing heavy! The massive casters helped a lot when moving it.

I've had this one for years. Upgraded fron BW to 3015LF. Added second port per BFM, expanded aluminum grille, wheel set, pull up tow bar...PS, the EQ is set for it's role as the sub for the keys. My fEarful 2x15Sub is easier to move than this monstrosity.

there is one of these in my local Pawn shop $350 CDN but that was a while ago that I checked.....been there for 3-4 years. I bet for sure you could haggle way down.... if anyone in the Toronto/Scarborough area is interested, let me know and I could check if still available (5 minute drive from my house)..I've been tempted over the years but seems way too big and heavy for my needs

30+ years gigging this MKIV head 1820 cab 122lbs..ohh my poor back lol The rig still sounds great all these years later..but it stays in my studio lol Blew out a disc carrying it and blew out my windows playing it!

I had the dual 18 version of that cab. Talk about a monster.

As someone who recently picked up a Peavey Basic 40 from 1984 that plays and sounds great, I say, rock that thing!!

Finally had a chance to play this $75 blast from the past. Spector Euro>GK MB Fusion 800> Peavey 1x15BW. Must say I'm impressed. Sounds better than I remember them sounding in the 80s. Punchy and loud enough for most bar bands. 25 year old me would totally rock this cab. Present me will put its heavy ass in one spot & leave it. Playing it when I'm there. (Please disregard my messy corner of misc parts & cables)
