Old rookie

I thought I already joined and said hello but it didn't recognize my e-mail. Must have been a senior moment.

Anyhow... I just bought myself a shiny new $100 Rogue 5-string. I went cheap because I haven't played in twenty years and I wasn't sure I wanted to get back into it. Of course, as soon as I pulled it out of the box I knew I had made the right choice and almost instantly ordered about $350 worth of accessories to go with my $100 bass... cheap, right? We won't talk about the hundreds of dollars in planned upgrades. Or the spare bass I got thanks to a UPS screwup. Or the fact my wife is mildly interested in learning to play. Who needs money anyway.

As far as my goals, I don't really have any. I never got past the cover band stage when I first played decades ago. I do want to actually learn theory and make my own noise this time. I also have some ideas for tinkering with the spare bass just to do things I've never seen done before. Not because I think I'm a musical genius, but because I like tinkering and going off the beaten path.

I'm here to learn. But it is just a hobby to me. I'm well past the point of thinking I might be the next Geezer, or whoever the kids think is cool these days.

Welcome!

We're all gear nerds here. And we love to see pics of other people's gear! So if you do a major overhaul of one of your new toys, start thread about it and keep us posted along the way. You'll probably get some good advice along the way too if you're open to that.

Always open to good advice. Bad advice is often more fun.

At the moment, none of the planned overhaul is particularly interesting. New tuners, strings, pickups... just replace the questionable bits that come on a bargain instrument. The tuners are especially frustrating. But that's all basic setup that wouldn't excite anyone here. I will definitely post stuff when I start experimenting with the ideas the voices keep whispering in my ear.
