Older versus newer Fender Precision basses

I've heard conflicting things about the newer p basses compared to those made up until 2000 or so. Do the current Fender Precisions give you the classic p bass tone?

I know there have been design "updates" such as graphite stiffening bars in the neck. Do the new features change the inherent p bass tone noticeably?

The older P basses sound better than the new ones!

Exactly I'm sitting on a couple that should sound amazing in about 40 more years

Not much has changed other than the newer ones are generally a bit lighter and the rods help with dead spots to some extent. Pickups change a bit but not as much as some people would have you think and they are very easy to change anyway
