OLP Bass

Buying my second bass pretty soon, and i think i'd go for an OLP, mainly for the looks.

I saw this at my local GC used, i played it and it sounded almost as good as an SB14. But i'm wondering, does this look more like a Sterling or a Stingray? To me it looks like a sterling, which i favor over a stingray

Absolutely true. However, expect to have to rewire controls to get a really decent stingray tone out of it. Not a big deal considering the quality of the bass you are getting for this money.

I didn't think OLP made a Sterling body and the bass in the pics looks like a Stingray body to me. But then the pics show only one angled perspective.

Doesn't really matter which it looks like, and the audience doesn't know the difference. For that matter, your post indicates that you aren't sure of the difference yourself! If you like it and the price is right, get it.

another thing, i'm much more in favor of a maple neck, would you guys say they're better for playing punk? The dark blue is $180, while the regular blue is $150.

They are Stingray versions. I have one. Bought it new from MF when they were selling out of them for $150 shipped. Got to say, if I would not have mine custom painted, I would dump it for a boat oar in a heart beat. THe neck is fat thick uncomfortable and not much about it to like, but like everything, that is my opinion. I know many people who love them..
