Just thought i'd start something fresh

If this has already been covered, i apologise in advance

So, if you could have just one 60 minute lesson/Jam session with one bass player, who would it be and why?

I'll start this

Player: Rex Brown - Pantera
Why?: Because i love how he can get such a clear groove that can cut through the guitars of Dime and Vin's drums.

i'd rather take it from a jazz guy who could show me better ways of being able to play stuff i liked by pantera by establishing a good academic as well as stylistic musical background. any of the top guys would work well but these days i'm really liking roy vogt, who just started coming on here recently. ed friedland would also be right at the top of my list. so probably one of them. dave larue is closer to me, but i used to take lessons from him already

This is why i chose Rex Brown, because he wrote the lines i love in Pantera, but he also used to be a Jazz bassist, and was offered a scholarship but declined, so he must know his stuff

Fun hypothetical type of deal. My first vote would be to consume 60 minutes of Lincoln Goines' time. Amazing player who makes any ensemble sound better with his presence, and by all accounts a fantastic teacher who seamlessly ties together harmony and rhythm.

Either Mark Dresser or Donald Palma...because their musical scope is broader and deeper than almost any other bassist I can think of on the planet.

yeah rex is very subtle and cool; you can tell he knows how to play more than metal.

i would take scott lafaro....but seriously i woud trade the high price hour for sustained tutelage from a good local guy.....the best players are not always the best teachers imho and i've never bought into the master class notion until you are a master in your own right......
