It’s an old school bias left over from the days when session guys were 100% expected to lay down three finished takes in a 3 hour session. That was the industry standard in the 60s and engineers wanted to only see gear that they knew would work immediately. It has perpetuated past it’s usefulness. Not meant as a negative contrast, but every time I have plugged my Hofner in at a recording session, the familiarity of sound had caused an immediate smile on the engineer’s face. They just want something easy that sounds good right away.
