I think it's awesome that he has so many options. I wasn't even given the choice with the last few basses I bought. They just threw the damn trussrod in without even asking.

I was trying to be diplomatic. If I were to truly post what I thought of his materials, craftsmanship, artistic taste, et. all. it would probably get deleted for profanity.
You're right though, there's a difference between useful salvage and junk.
Y'all just don't get it. If Wish stops making his instruments, then it's a loss to all of you who have to rely on perfection to make you sound good. I am the proud owner of Wishbass #276, a "Flow" I bought of eBay for $200. I have a couple of guitars made out of cigar boxes, and am currently building my new PA cabs from Fitzmaurice designs.
And for those of you who put down Wish's lack of attention to detail, I picked up a $1500 Warwick at my local GC and cut my index finger on the corner of the topnut. I've never been injured by my $200 Wishbass...

I cant understand why everyone bombs him. If you dont like them then DONT BUY THEM. Its that easy. Personally i love his work i bought a custom hyper i put a cocobolo pick up cover,a new switch plate and wooden bridge on it. It looks and sounds amazing. The action is low (could go alot lower if i didnt make the pup cover so thick). Everytime somone else sees it they cant belive i only paid 500 for it. Yes i had to do some work on it but nothing serious. No, they dont usually come with truss rods mine doesnt have one and my neck is as straight as an arrow, straighter in fact. I would rather pay 500 for a wishbass than a factory stamped fender made somewhere in korea.

If you're getting a handmade bass for $200 then you have to expect that it's not going to be a boutique Roscoe or Fodera in quality of build. These basses are just fun projects apparently. Some like them, some don't.
You really have to understand the kind of work that goes into an instrument. Because of modern technology, instruments of high quality at a low price are just taken for granted. An instrument that works takes a lot of engineering and talent to build. I've thought about building my own bass several times but reading over how to do it has turned me off of it simply because of the amount of work involved.

Hey what a surprise, someone starts a thread about Wishbasses, I assume asking for reasonable and sensible input about the topic (the prospective sale of Wishbass) and the thread descends into the usual back and forth of wish-haters and wish-lovers.

I have just acquired a Wishbass and I am impressed with its playability and sound. Ok, the finish could be better but it is not terrible as some of the detractors make out and that's something I can fix and Wish is completely open with this fact. He certainly does not mislead anybody about what he is about.
Anyway to get to the point of the post 'selling the company'. I'm not certain, but I'm pretty sure Wishbass is a one/two man operation and no matter what your business is this sort of enterprise is hard to sell. For the prospective purchaser instead of buying a small company why would you not just start up and do the same/similar thing with a different name? I expect there would be some equipment to sell but not sure the 'name' is worth the sort of money that you could retire on - the same would be true of many independent bass builders not just Wishbass. I am not sure if the designs are copyrighted but again it is easy to replicate without breaking copyright so there may not be too much value there either.
If turning out 100 or so basses (my guesstimate) a year is grueling I wonder if Wish could get by in 'retirement' doing 15 or so (still a lot of labor) at a higher quality and obviously higher price? I realise that this would be against his current vision and it wouldn't be retirement so maybe it is not an option - just a thought! I know having experienced the basic model I'd definitely consider purchasing a LX (not SX!).

Yes, that is next...with a twist. No need to start a new thread about it when we can settle this right here and now. It is OBVIOUSLY Cliff Burton. Any real fan knows that. He had bell bottoms afterall and didn't wear spandex or a bullet belt. What other evidence is needed?
More? MORE? Okay!!! Burton played a Rickenbacker for a while. Everyone knows that automatically gives him even more cool points. True fans will know and remind all that Burton wrote and arranged a lot of the music. He also took some theory. He wrote a few solos that are regarded by those "in the know" as being THE BEST bass solos ever written and performed. Most Metallifans generally agree that he could poo with more rhythm than Newstead.
If you add these undeniable facts to his denim jacket, you reach the obvious conclusion.

Was that a stop motion film? Am I really drunk?I would like to have one to knock about on, one of the Peanut models with loads of different woods used. Of course, not as a serious bass, and I'd never pay for one, given that most people say they are trash!
A Wishbass is a serious bass; every bit as serious as an SX or the like - it is just not everybody's cup of tea!
Sure lots of folks who have never touched one seem to take great pleasure in knocking them along with some folks who have bought them without understanding what they are getting. However, Steve Wishnevsky couldn't be clearer about what he is doing/building so anyone who complains about the 'quality' or finish is, well I won't say what I was going to say, but let's just say the problem lies with them and not the bass!
