Opinions on 2 chorus pedals

Hey fellow TBer's !

Just need some opinions on two chorus pedals I'm looking at. All I'm wanting is a subtle chorusing effect.

The first is a MXR MICRO one knob set it forget it.

The second is an ANALOGMAN MINI with deep mod.

I know AM are awesome but is it overkill for what I'm shooting for?

Choruses (Chorii?) are tough, and vary widely. Do you have a chance to try the MXR at a store?

Can't help with either, but I just got the Nectar Chorus from ProTone Pedals; it does subtle VERY well, and is very transparent. I'm planning on running it through four gigs this weekend.

Plus the artwork has boobies on it.

The AM with Deep Mod is perfect for what you want and is certainly not overkill just because you want a subtle effect. You will have an excellent chorus - with a wide range of chorusing - you can use for years to come or if you want - sell with a very high resale value. IMO, in that configuration, it is the perfect chorus for bass. In sum, you will be able to achieve an excellent "subtle" chorusing effect using it.

The MXR chorus sounds great and it's relatively inexpensive.iI love the fact that it's plug and play. One knob and you're done.

The Analogman has the reputation of being a great chorus but it's too much money for most bass players. That pedal is $200+ used.

I would not discount the Boss chorus either. They sound very good. Most people like to bash them but you find them on many pro-boards. I have the CEB-3
and the CE-5; they have differences on tone but it's minimal. A little more bass on the CEB-3 and a little more tonal flexibility on the CE-5.

I owned the MXR Micro Chorus and I could barely notice it was on even at max rate. I sold it to a Sam Ash and it sounded gorgeous on their guitar, so it wasn't a dud. I traded it in for an EHX Stereo Electric Mistress, great for general modulation but the chorus knob alone is average.

I don't use chorus much at all, but I have the ceb-3 and it works really well for me. The non-bass version is just as good.

I had a micro chorus. It sounds pretty good but I don't like one knob pedals. Nothing wrong with em' I just prefer MORE KNOBS. The Analog Man looks awesome but it's spendy. Have you looked into the MXR Analog Chorus or the Black Label Chorus(same circuit different box). I replace my Micro with the Black Label and it sounds awesome. There is a good bass demo of the Analog Chorus on Youtube.

The thing about chorus pedals, moreso than almost any other fx besides dirt, is- there are just so many varieties of this effect. From subtle differences, to extreme ones. it's really hard to nail it down, and it takes "ears-on" experience to know exactly what you want. I can tell you, before I finally settled down with my Maxon CS 9Pro chorus, i had bought and sold/traded approx 25 other chorus pedals, never being 100% satisfied. Just fyi.

I can't give an opinion on either the MXR or AM but I agree about the Boss. I believe Duff McKagan uses Boss Chorus. He brings it forward occasionally but usually it just adds a nice underlying textural richness to the mix.
