Opinions on Schroeder 1212- old vs. new design

This is my 1st post. I have some serious back problems, and I want a lightwieght cab to replace Ampeg 410. And I hope to improve my sound while I'm at it, maybe less muddy and a fuller low end. I'm thinking 212...

Looking back on discussions and reviews, it seems Schroeder was quite popular about ten years ago, and, maybe, has fallen from favor...? No offense, but you TB'ers seem to be a bit "flavor of the month". And alot of the critique seems to be directed at the old model.

Can anybody speak to the newer traditional design vs his earlier downfire models? I'm think about trying his (new) 1212L, or PL212.

Or other lightweight 212s in that ballpark I should consider? Thanks for your input!

I have a GK 410 MBE that's 800 watts at 8 ohms and only weighs 41 lbs. I stuffed the inside with pillow fluff to dampen the boom a bit, but other than that I think it's a great sounding cab and I can lift it with one hand. It has one handle on the top, but I've thought about installing one handle on each side, I think that would be beneficial to you.

BTW, I clicked this thread more because of your name, first name's Matt obviously but a lot of my friends call me Nard, because of how someone once mispronounced part of my last name.

I took the plunge a few weeks ago and got a new front fired Schroeder 212L. I've only played it out a few times, but I dig it so far. It does cut through a mix like a knife, but I would disagree with some people's comments about it lacking in the low end. Most of the comments that I've found are for the original slanted design, so perhaps the new design is in fact more full and balanced. I've been using a GB 6.0 and it's super loud with the master at 9 o'clock. Also extremely light for such a powerful cab.

Yes, both speakers in the new design are front fired. Here's a pic of mine, although you can't see the speakers because I upgraded to the silver grill cloth.

My experience with Schroeder cabs is limited to the front fired 610L, and I agree that it was fairly balanced. Definitely not the huge low mid bump I've heard so much about. If anything, there was a mid-mid (!) bump, the mids were kind of untidy (best description I can come up with) to my ears.

I gigged that cab for a few years, and was very happy with it.
