opinions on wilkinson brand hardware?

hey all, i am looking into trying to build a parts p bass on the cheap. what are people's opinions on wilkinson brand hardware? particularly the bridges and tuners?

they are so much cheaper than gotoh, hipshot, or schaller, and i was wondering if they were good quality wise.

You generally get what you pay for. IMHO Wilkinson hardware is better than a lot of low-end OEM stuff (like what you get on an SX), but not as good as gotoh, hipshot and schaller. If your goal is to build a parts bass on the cheap you obviously don't wanna spend $75 or more on a set of tuners or a bridge, do you?

well, if the wilkinson stuff is not worth it, then i will pay more...

i was planning on using some hipshot tuners ~$75, and a gotoh 201 ~$32

i just thought if i could scrap a few extra bucks off of the price i might be able to do it with the wilkinson stuff...

I've tried their black tuners and the finish sucks. It doesn't take much before the black starts to wear off.

put wilkinson tuners on my "p" parts bass, hav'nt had any trouble with slippage or the black finish wearing off.

Wilkinson used to be one of the best, their bridges from the early 90s were amazing!,. however it looks like they sold the name and now make stuff on the cheap..

Stick with Schaller or hipshot you know you will get good hardware.

i hope youre not talking about this one. Had to be one of, if not the worst design

It depends on what you can afford.

Yeah, you get what you pay for, but Wilkinson parts are very good for the money. I wouldn't hesitate to buy them again.

I have three Wilkinson bass bridges with brass saddles and the quality is suburb. The saddles are big and fat like the 201 and I don't really dig that, but the quality is great.

I also have two six stringers with Wilkinson locking tuners that are just top shelf. I think their stuff is quite a good bargain. Better than allparts.

Wilkinson has probably been around for getting on for 20 years now, but has only become a prominent name in the high street in the past 3-5 years. It sells just about everything!
