Options for using a Crest Prolite 2.0 with a Tech21NYC GED 2112

So I have a GED 2112 coming my way and I’ve been researching the best way (for me) to set it up with my Crest Prolite 2.0 power amp to feed my Greenboy F212 cabinet.

I’ve read through a bunch of the threads on TB and have a decent idea of how to blend the two sections of the pre either through use of the internal jumper or a patch cord from the deep section to the effects return with the 50/50 switch engaged.

I’ve also seen a couple people mention how blending the sections seems to dull a little bit of the sparkle from the preamp, though I’m not sure of the difference (if any) between electrically combining the two versus audibly with two cabinets.

Either way, has anyone tried sending both the drive and deep sections to a power amp and then using bridged/mono on the amp to feed a single cabinet? I’m thinking that, if that would work, I can still send both DI signals from the GED 2112 to the FOH and one blended signal to my F212.

I recently started playing with a punk band, and while I can get some decently gritty tones from my BBE BMAX, I was looking for something with a little more midrange flexibility.
Going for a sort of “Karl Alvarez from The Descendents but thicker” bass tone. The idea of a thick low end with some sizzle on top really seems like it would fit the bill.
I’ve got the EBS Stanley Clarke Preamp for my upright gigs, but I can always just feed that straight into the power amp.

Negative on the bridged mono: the mode accepts one channel input, not two. You'll have to do your "mixing" at the preamp. I also recommend using the 1/4" ouputs; save the DI / XLR's for FOH.

• 900 Watts @ 2 Ω per channel

• 570 Watts @ 4 Ω per channel

• 325 Watts @ 8 Ω per channel

• 975 Watts @ 8 Ω bridged

• 1950 Watts @ 4 Ω bridged

I was afraid of that.
On the upside, if I use the internal jumper, I’ll only have to worry about sending one signal to the FOH and I’ll have LOADS of headroom (F212 is 4ohms). Guess I’ll just move the internal jumper.

The GED2112 is a newer model, so I planned on moving the other jumper to switch to “tight” mode anyway. Although I can’t seem to find any audio samples online of the GED2112 rack unit in tight mode, I have a hunch that as a fingerstyle player it’ll give me the precision & note clarity that I’m looking for.

Ah, I believe you’re right. I was wrong! It is just side A that works in Bridged mode as per the manual. Answered before my coffee

I believe this is correct. I also encourage the OP to respect the power handling of the cab.

I’ve had my F212 for a number of years now. Honestly it’s probably the best thing that I’ve ever purchased. The intonation improvements alone I was able to make with my upright playing once I was finally able to hear myself clearly make it almost priceless IMHO.

I was in a 60’s cover band for a little bit and while the Orange Terror Bass 1000 I was using at the time sounded great, anything less than that wattage leaves my cab wanting more :)

That’s what my hunch has been about these preamps. I love Geddy but I’ve always done my own thing tone-wise. I have an idea in my head of what will work or be ideal for this project. Sort of a GK800rb growl meets Ampeg midrangey goodness with a hair of Orange tubey low end thickness.

Given the features and options on the GED2112, I think it’ll get me close with that tight mode.

Yep! The F212 is indeed 4ohms.

The more I think about it, the more I think that either the patch cord method or the internal jumper is the way to go.
No sense getting overly complicated for a punk band :)

Besides, just knowing that I have so many options is a comforting thought.
