Orange AD200 Preamp tubes.

Recently I replaced EHX 6550s power tubes on my AD200 with some Vintage RCA 6550s. The results were: MUCH BETTER EVERYTHING!!
Better single notes definition, tighter, louder, better envelope response overall. Just the OD sounds a little bit farty now instead of a more distorsion like. Anyway, my tone didn't change much and now I may want to do something about it.

It has inside an EHX on V1 (12AX7), the Orange stock one on V2 (12AX7) and another EHX on V3 (12AT7). Basically I want to get something that helps me with treble, crunch and punch. I want to increase the definition I got with these new power tubes, but with a creamy feeling.

I have a weird fixation on some Vintage Telefunken 12AX7 for V1 and V2, but I don't know what to do with the phase inverter. Any thoughts?

Also I would like to hear recommendations on what, you AD200 owners, carry on your pre-amp section.

hope it doesn't sounds odd...
but since i use passive basses, needing a sharp sound, sometimes i feel like i need more treble from my ad200 too...
i ended up with a MXR eq stompbox... like the sound and colour of my head and now i have it with all the highs needed...
when i tried to swap 12ax7 preamp tubes in my ex traynor yba200 (from EA to JJ) i noticed subtle differences (a nicer OD and an earlier breakup) but nothing that could be considered as a sensible boost on some frequencies...
just my two cents;)

Your feeling for Telefunken 12ax7's is really quite common amongst tube nuts, therefore be prepared to have to dig deep in your pocket.
Well my absolute fave is a mil grade mullard CV4004 for a phase splitter but a good Brimar ECC83 is almost the same performance.
Not surprised that RCA's did the business for your power amp.
GE or RCA might also be a very good find for your pre.:bassist:
PS I have a Matamp but its the same sort of circuit design really.:ninja:

I know maybe I won't get that much difference by swapping pre tubes and get a whole more treble out of it, but I just need a bit. I just want to accentuate what these new power tubes are giving me in sound definition and while I'm there, look for some sharp treble bonus.

Also, how risky it is to get some Vintage Used Telefunken tubes on ebay?
Which online store sells good old tubes in good shape that aren't NO$$$ stuff?
