Orange Crush 35B

Hey guys, I really need some advice. I'm looking for a small combo amp between 200-300 dollars. I noticed the orange crush 35B online, and honestly I like what I've seen. I've read forums and no one addressed by question directly. I know that the 35B is about tone, but I'm also worried about volume. Companies can say however many watts they want, a crate 50w is not necicarly as loud as an ampeg 50w. I need this amp to play outdoor gigs and get over pretty hard hitting drums. Would the Orange 35B do the trick? or am i safer with the Ampeg 50w?

For 349 you can get a Fender Bassman with 100 watts/10". The Orange sounds way overpriced to me (although haven't heard it). There's only so much tone to be had with 35 watts of solid state power. Theres an Ampeg 200 watt HPT in the TB classifieds that'll hold up to most drummers/gigs-for the same price!!. It's waaaaaaay more for your money. IMO the Orange tube heads are killer and worth overpaying a bit for (I've done it), but the cheaper SS stuff is just riding the the rep of the top-of-the-line stuff. My .02, YMMV, blah blah.

To get the best bang for the buck in that price range.

Get a used Peavey. Great amps for the money.

Even the most timid drummer will obliterate you if you only have a 35 watter backing you up. Buy used, get as much as you can afford.

I own an Orange Crush 35B and while I love it the amp is a practice amp. (the main reason I got it in the 1st place) IF your looking at playing outdoor gigs I would look at something in the at least 100watt range and there are plenty combo amps out there in your price range brand new (with a warrenty). I wish Orange would make a 1x15 100 watt combo in the crush series. I think such an amp would do very well sale wise. It would certainly solve your problem as well as mine and many others in need of a grab and go bass amp combo that would have enough output to do most jobs.

I've got an Orange Crush 35B too, and would echo other comments. It's a good unit, with a range of sounds, although not a huge amount of chest-thumping bass. I wouldn't use it at a gig, but it's been fine for jamming etc. (you'll not overwhelm a drummer with it though!).

I bought it as I was starting to play bass after some time out of playing, and just wanted a practice one. It doesn't wake the children, and my other amps are all a bit noisy at home, so I often use it to practice with still.

I really like the sound of this amp, and I'm thinking about getting it as a practice/coffeehouse venue/recording amp. It was loud for 35 watts and had gobs and gobs of tone. It is an Orange, after all.

Still, I'd really like to see a small tube bass combo from Orange, like in the 20-40 tube watt range. Or maybe a hybrid combo? Something small with tubes.
