Orange Iso cabs.

They have HUGE sound in a little package. Great thump for the 5'er guys with some clarty for the jazz guys as well. I did not care as for much for the sp210 and the sp212... but the sp410 kicks some butt! You need to try one.. or two...

Great if you like paying for and carrying a boutique 4x10 cabinet and getting the volume and size of a 2x10 cabinet. :) That's all I'll say since if you search on this you'll find out the discussion's been done to death.

If the volume/output of a cabinet depends on the total surface area of the speakers then surely these isobaric cabs only have an effective surface area of the front speakers and the speakers behind are not pushing air out the front of the cab ??

The isobaric cabs are a way of getting the same low end from a smaller box BUT the volume output of their 410 is equivalent to a 210, the 212 to a 112, etc. Lots of money for an exhumed concept. If you want to pay top dollar for something unique and small that sounds good but produces much less volume per dollar than the competition these are your boxes. The OBC410 is faaaaaaaaar louder than the isobaric version, just larger and heavier and cheaper.

Here is a cut-a-way of the SP cabs. The back speaker pushes out the port.

I don't really know why some of you guys on here say that the SP410 is not as loud as other 410's..... ya right :rollno:

OBC410 is a great cab as well, but you are not comparing apples to apples here. The OBC410 uses a standard magnet speaker in them NOT neo like the SP cabs take in there makes them more expensive.

Because EVERYONE who knows anything about cab design knows that isobarics do one thing incredibly well...

They go lower in a smaller box.

However, the volume output of a 210 isobaric is the same as a non-isobaric 210 cabinet...i.e. - an isobaric cab that uses 4 ten inch speakers will only put out as much volume as a 210, because the other two 10" speakers inside do not contribute to the volume, only aiding in it's capacity to put out lower frequencies in a smaller enclosure.

That isn't to say an isobaric 210 might not be louder than some 410's. Depends on the speakers used and the overall design of the cabinets that are being compared.

To say simply that an isobaric 210 is louder than another 210 because it uses 4 speakers is misleading. Those that don't know the science behind it will be easily misled.

With regards to the back speaker pushing out the port, that is a matter of the tuning of the cab and in no way is it contributing to the overall volume of the cab. You know that and so does everyone else who knows anything about it. The pictured cab above will put out more low end than another 110 (or 112...I can't tell what size the driver is) but it isn't going to be any louder than a well designed front loaded 110 (or 112).

Isobaric designs are old and really an outdated design save for the fact that it allows a cab to put out deeper lows without using a giant cabinet. It does NOT make the overall volume of the cab any louder. It DOES increase the volume output of only those lower frequencies, but nothing in the way of lower mids through upper mids. So it is a bit misleading to say it's louder than standard reflex cabs that have only one driver (much less those with more drivers). Just like it's misleading for many companies to say their cabs go down low, but upon closer inspection those lows are at -10dB! :D

As rpsands pointed out, this has been discussed ad nauseum if anyone wants to take a little time to search for it.

And I mention this not because I think isobarics aren't any good or that these Orange cabs aren't great. I'm sure they are. They do what they do very well. But let's be honest about what it is they really offer.
