Oh, and I forgot to mention the low battery led. That is the red led next to the bridge. It slow blinks red when the battery is low. It consumes a couple of milliamps.

Yeah. Pretty close. That is his Uber version of a 4 string recurve. Mine will be a 5'r.

Just found your thread, that's going to be one hell of a bass!
I've actually played the 4 string Uber Recurve your bass is based on, it's a brilliant instrument and a work of art, I think you're going to be VERY happy with your bass

I've been playing ACG basses, pretty much exclusively for a few years now, and I can't get enough of Alan's work, his basses are just amazing.
I've currently got 3 ACGs, but will be getting a fourth some time next year.

That looks like a really nice build you're getting from Alan. I had an ACG back in the early days for a short while and although I loved Alan's lutherie and quality, I never got on with the filter based preamp. Being a player that uses two, maybe three sounds on the average bass, I could never find the same sound twice on the filter pre. It was a shame, because mine was a really nice instrument.

The new DFM preamp is a lot more intuitive.
The frequency bands on the low filters are narrower which makes them easier to dig through and the high filter works more like a high mid/treble stack, rather than a filter, with a more intuitive cut and boost.
There's also mid boost and treble boost switching on there too.
All together it sounds like a lot, but I find it a lot easier to use, if you can handle a 3 band EQ you won't struggle at all

I never got on with the filter based preamp. Being a player that uses two, maybe three sounds on the average bass, I could never find the same sound twice on the filter pre.

I have an East EQ-02 (the older, simpler version: Only one LPF for both pickups, plus the active HPF) installed on my Modulus, and while I intitially worried that I wouldn't be able to find all the Good Sounds, I fairly quickly came to recognize that those two or three commonly used sounds were not only easily achievable, but also easily recallable on the East preamp. I just had to learn to mentally associate the "recipe" for dialing those sounds in on the East with what the sound was...and then remember what position all the knobs had to be in to get that!

The only downside of having developed this sort of familiarity is that I no longer spend a lot of time experimenting to find new sounds. Well, that's not a downside on the gig...but despite all the versatility the East preamp offers, I'm still pretty much just using it for two or three sounds in my arsenal.

The DFM no longer has the highpass filter which caused endless confusing it has been replaced with a sweepable mid/treble with boost only still no cut in the system. It can however be full turned of. The ACG EQ02 was a cut down EQ01 other than that just the same with one less lowpass filter. However it has been discontinued mainly because to get the best out of a filter system I think you need both filters which does make it a bit more complicated but makes the instrument much more flexible. Which I realise not everyone is looking for. So I will be introducing a new pre-amp based on the East P-Retro which works in a more standard way.

The original fingerboard I selected was not acrylic impregnated as originally specified. Alan realized the error and informed me right away. He explained to me that unlike poly finished boards, you cannot tell the difference between an untreated board and acrylic impregnated one by look or feel. He realized it was not treated when he started to sand it. So I decided to wait until he got some new boards in. I specifically asked for high contrast macassar ebony. The bass will have a wenge cap on the headstock. I think any of these boards would look great. I choose one already, but before I announce which one it was, I would love to hear what you would have chosen.

So I got a notice that my bass has reached US shores!! The tracking site says 'THE RECEIVER MUST PAY THE DUTIES OR TAXES DUE ON THE PACKAGE'. How do I go about paying this?
