I wanted to try one of these out, after reading all the high praise they are receiving here. I'm getting this for my Spirit XZ-25 fretted bass, currently equipped with CTS replacement pots in a standard passive VVT configuration.

I got the 3ZB-2 configurable, two-pickup model with master volume, blend, and the Z-Switch - no tone control. I'll mount the switch in the hole for the passive tone control.

David Meadows, designer for Audere, was very helpful on the phone this afternoon. I was mainly asking him about whether the Audere can add gain (it doesn't, it's unity gain unless active tone controls are ordered) and if an EMG PA-2 preamp could be added to boost the output (it can be, as long as it's inserted AFTER the Audere and not between it and the pickups.)

The Audere comes ready to install; it's a matter of properly connecting the pickups and then mounting the unit, and installing the included Switchcraft stereo switching jack. I'll have to drill out the jack hole in the body to use the Switchcraft, as the Spirit still has the junky barrel jack. It was going bad anyway.

I'll report back when I receive the Audere. I may post some pictures of the unit before and after installation, and will definitely review the sound of it.

I'm also going to strip the factory finish from the bass body, do a staining and finish it with tung oil. Quite the redo. It should be NICE.
