No expert here. Can only go off my limited experiences. My journey has been starting with just a rumble 200, they I tried the Tech 21 bass fly rig v2, and found I liked the sound of the STB over the normal sans amp in it. But I didn’t like the rest of the fly rig, swapped it for the geddy di-2112 always on, and that was good, but not what I was after and went straight for the Sans Amp VT pedal. Loved it and the sound it made. Then I got the bass rig 64 and loved that, was using it a lot more than the VT pedal. Got GAS and thought whilst I had cash I’d try out the blue bass rig. I found it I liked the sound out of the bass rig over the VT bass DI pedal. I a/b them myself, going into the effects return of my rumble 200, and ended up sticking with the Bassrig. I just preferred the Bassrigs more simple layout and sound more. You can definitely get more types of sounds out of the VTbassDI with the character knob, but the bassrig to my ears just sounded better all round for my playing at this point and remains on my board over the VTbassDI. I now have the bassrig 64 set to a more walking bass friendly sound and the SV to a brighter more slap friendly sound. Love them both, the bassrigs are great pedals that I hope stick around on my board for a long time as they do everything I need and sound great.
I would be interested in how you find it if you try both out.
