We finally did a purge on our set list and I gotta tell you - it felt great. Some old standbys are finally gone and replaced with some different stuff! We did have some give and take which was a great exercise. There are just some tunes that players won't give up unless you pry their instrument from their cold dead fingers but we got though it by letting them suggest replacements. Wanna give up Jessica? Let's add Blue Sky... And a very personal victory for me...I'm a Believer and Pretty Woman are gone! Interested to see your experiences on set list changes - did it go well or did it lead to self-desctuction.

It was hard for me when we did it, because some of the ones we cut are 80's songs that *I* like, and was good at and that get people up dancing. We were almost up to enough songs to share a bill with another local band and we chopped half our stuff! All too find "our sound" ::sigh:: but i do like the new ones we're trying. I just want to still play "Jenny" because i *finally nailed the freakin bridge (i hate in-congruent bridges)

If left up to the group as a whole, no song would ever be removed from a set list, no matter how painful the song is to play. There is always someone who absolutely, loves "that" song.
I'm in charge of generating and printing out set lists for gigs and rehearsals. Those painful songs somehow seem to not usually make the list and slowly, over time, are generally forgotten.
