Output difference

I also assume whoever is running the mixer can’t be bothered to move a slider.
Being "whoever" in another life and occasionally these days, we have enough guitar gain changes, uneven keyboard patch changes, vocalists waving the vocal mic all over the place, and yes, bass changes, even on the bass's controls to chase after. And the varsity guys deal with all that without complaint (for the most part)

So we appreciate the efforts of someone like the OP that wants to simplify his bass gain changes. It benefits him/her and us as well.

And it's "fader", not "slider"......😁

I was trying to recall which Radial product would handle this. It looks like the Big Shot might also do the job. Fewer bells and whistles and a smaller format.

I have the old version of the Big Shot without the input 2 level control. That feature on this version is extremely useful - I will be asking Santa for one.
 
If either of bass is active and has an internal gain trim pot on the preamp circuit, as many do, you can adjust it so the output of the basses is equal. This is the way I typically balance volumes for the easiest possible switching for live purposes. If I can't do this, I use any pedal that can be set to provide a volume boost/cut and either doesn't color the tone at all or colors the tone in a way that suits whichever bass I will being using with, such as a clean or mostly clean boost or an EQ. Something like an EQ pedal is also a good choice if there are other EQ adjustments you would like to make in order to optimize the sound of one bass with your rig.

As mentioned, the output difference between P and J is to be expected. The two coils of the split P-bass pickup are wired in series, which boosts output relative to single coils, whether soloed or wired in parallel. The two J pickups are wired in parallel.

You could mitigate that difference by wiring the P-bass pickup in parallel -- or the J pickups in series. But doing so will result in a significant change in tone as well as output: less mid bump for P wired in parallel, more mid bump for J wired in series (to simplify the changes).

The vast majority of players prefer P and J exactly as they are, so it's probably not what you want. But it's not unknown for someone to rewire P or J, or install a series/parallel switch so that either mode can be selected from the same bass (of course there will be a difference in output between those modes, as described).
