overdrive and SS amps...

Green Rhino...yes, i've read about it...not tried it yet though...can it do the whole grit and grind mild low OD kinda thing in a way sorta like the Pork Loin for that kinda tone? seem slike more tend to favor the Pork Loin for that kinda tone...hmmm...

i've read that the BB Bass may have a loss in bass? hmmm...not sure, have not tried it yet but will soon! i'm itching to try the BB and also the Pork Loin and also the VT Bass...VT Bass mostly for a different flavor...the other two pedals for grit and grind...so, it's kinda between Pork Loin and BB...

The BB absolutely does NOT have a loss in bass, in fact with it's active EQ it can BOOST bass significantly!!!

The Pork Loin is a great pedal. As some have said, it can sound a little dark, depending on how you use it and on the rest of your gear.

More poeple have the PL than the GR because it has been out a lot longer. You can get some very similar sounds out of them. The GR can get more 'rude' sounding and grindy, the PL tends to sound warmer and more 'vintage-y'. GR tends to cut through more. The PL has more range in the low gain area, meaning the PL can sound clean and then gradually warmer and eventually overdriven, where I found the GR went from clean to mildly overdriven without any real area in between. Just depends what you want out of them.

FWIW, I've had the following, but the only ones I kept are the BB and the Agro, but I don't use the Agro for 'overdrive' I use it for INSANE distortion.

SFT
Pork Loin
Green Rhino
Bad Monkey, (with and without bass-modification)
BBE Green Screamer (with and without bass-modification)Digitech Hardwire CM-2
Boss DS-1 (probably the only one I'd say to stay away from for an 'overdrive' sound, though it can be cool for more obnoxious sounds)
Probably others I'm forgetting.....

I just tested (and bought) Green Rhino on my GK 700RB II. It sounds great! Pork Loin sounded too polite to my ears compared to GR, but warmer. Since I'm already happy with my original tone, I don't need a pedal to warm up my tone or add just slight grit which I'd use as an "always on" pedal. Green Rhino works better for me because I kick it in when I want some Jesus Lizardy overdrive.
GR is very transparent too.

cool, thanks for that info guys, about the Green Rhino! I'll try one out this weekend...seems like a cool pedal for that low OD kinda grit and grind and warm tubey kinda push for my much loved GK 1001RBII...i already have a Musket, a Black Plague, Boss HM-2...so, i'm covered with the extreme end of distortion and fuzz...i just need some OD for grit and grind and tubey breakup...yes, like Geddy and Jesus Lizard! i do mostly use a P bass with flats, i'm sure the pedal would just flat our rock with it! or a Jazz with DR Sunbeams...but i mostly play the Squier CV 60's P with flats...

Let us know how you liked it! I'm putting mine to a band practice test this friday, and to a gig test this saturday. Can't wait to see how it blows stuff away with its grindy nature through my GK NEO 412. Maybe I'll kick in a Swollen Pickle too with it.. THE WALLS WILL SHAKE
