Overdrive to fuzz pedal?

I'm still on the hunt for a fuzz pedal that'll satisfy my needs. And the other day I was jamming out with some friends where I used my Digitech Bad Monkey for a little OD. I liked it, although I thought it woulda have been nice if it were a little dirtier sounding.

So that got me to thinking that, hey, it'd be cool if I had a pedal that could go a little distortion/ovderive to nice creamy fuzz. Is there such a pedal?

well I'm definitely no effects guru, nor am I a fuzz guy but I think this will satisfy what your looking for. I heard it on basstasters and it goes from a nice grindy growl to full out fuzz without sounding like a chaotic noise machine!

well from what you say, i think the Tech 21 SansAmp VT Bass could be for you, yes its an amp modeller, but it apparently will do all the classic ampeg tones from motown fliptop to the staple - the SVT, and apparently it also goes further into heavy fuzz/distortion territory. its alot more expensive than the Bad Monkey, but you should be able to find a tone that suits your needs. i should say that ive not heard the pedal yet - other than a NAMM vid with negligable sound quality but Bass Player Magazine just gave it a glowing review this month, check out the Bass player website or the magazine for a review and clips.

Thanks for the suggestions. I guess I should have been a little more clearer. I'd like to be able to hit a switch that goes from overdrive to fuzz. So I guess like some distortion pedals that have regular mode, or rhythm mode or something, and then you click the switch to go into lead mode.

There's overdrives that you can kick into distortion, but I don't think you're going to find much if anything with an overdrive and a fuzz is the same unit, switchable between them, unless of course you want to buy a multieffect.

But why not just have two separate overdrive and fuzz pedals? Having a separate overdrive and fuzz will free you up to get the specific overdrive and fuzz tones you want. And I don't think the ease of having a single switch to go between them is more important than your tone. Besides, if it's that important to you, you can place them side by side and still hit them both at the same time.

Yeah, I'm going to agree with this. The boost channel is not a fuzz, but sorta/kinda/almost pretends to be one. Might get you close enough as far as single pedal solutions go.

Fuzz and overdrive/distortion pedals are so vastly different in terms of design and technique that two separate pedals is really the way to go, but buying one pedal at a time is the mother of invention / idle hands are JetPackBassist's playground / kills two birds in glass houses.

From the clips I have heard of the boost on the bass-drive, it sound pretty high-gain, but is a little fuzzy and fizzy, it seems like it looses a little bit of the grit is has in the normal mode.

The Disnortion may be a good call, except that I think the OD and distortion are in parallel, so maybe not quite what the OP is looking for.

Toasted -- I thought the main difference was gain stages. I would definitely call the Double Muff a fuzz, but it's just two ODs in series.

If you go two pedals in a row (see thread: Fun with Dirt), then I think you'll get what you want. Personally, I'd go Ibanez TS9 >> EHX English Muff'n

You could try the MXR Double Shot

That seems to be more or less what you're looking for, but I've never heard one used on bass... you could get it from MF or something, and return it if it's not your bag.
