Overheating with pedal?

Nah distortion pedals will find any amp worthy of shut down.

I've overheated a few with dirt pedals
And definitely main reason i stay away from class d amps as well. They die with distortion

How would the class of amp have anything to do with a higher content signal causing shutdown?

Well, I guess some may be better protected than the old lead sleds.

Just came in to say I've been using distortion (and every other effect made) for the better part of 25 years and I've never had an amp shut down because of it.

Yup, when you buy any quality amp, there shouldn't be problems like this.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I don't have the master vol past 12 but the gain is usually up, should i drop the gain and just use the pedal for dirt? I recently bought a bass big muff and tried it out, while it's didn't shut down the amp i did notice it was getting pretty warm, I'm starting to suspect the fan isn't working as it should? Or at all. Am i better off with a tube amp?

The fan not working could certainly be THE contributing factor to your symptoms. I would recommend contacting one of the manufacturer's authorized service centers and get your amp properly serviced.

What is unity gain? I'm not up with the tech side too much.

I figured that might be the case. It just means that the output of the pedal is the same with the effect engaged as it is with the effect off. So play through your amp with the effect off, then turn the effect on and adjust its gain until it's the same volume as before.

Since I test with all kinds of signals, I'm pretty sure of my statements AND put my money where my mouth is with a long history of my amp designs NOT showing all the problems you say are class D issues. There are plenty of other manufacturers with a similar track record, so it's not some unique "super-design" thing.
