P Bass bridge cover

If it's fender stock, it fits. Generally, those ashtrays go over almost anything unless you start talking about big ol' badass bridges.

EDIT: classic vibe P's come with the covers on the bridge anyway...

Not totally true.

I have a box-stock Squier P from 1998-9 and in no way will a cover fit.

I would say, from the looks of what you posted, that a cover is unlikely to fit. On my '76 P-bass there's more real estate behind/below my bridge cover than there appears to be behind/below your bridge and string ends.

You have to widen it with some plyers or something to fit over it, and even then it's a bit of a stretch. I have the same bass and had to flare the sides out to make it fit.

The covers that came stock with the Sonic blue CV p basses are not the same as the standard fender one. They were specially made to fit over the squier HM bridge,and were much thicker.

Can you expand on that information for me? I spent a lot of time trying to find a different cover and as far as I know there are only three 1) the older 'Tele' type, 2) the Jazz type and 3) the Precision type.

But there was never any different sizes of Precision covers that I could ever find.

At one time there was a non-lettered and a lettered Jazz cover, but I can't find the unlettered one anywhere either.

That's what kills me too - I don't know where the extra length of that red bass is hidden.

It has a 34" overall nut-to-barrel string length and the neck is the same length as my other P and the 12th fret is the same distance from the bottom of both basses.

Just kinda drives me whacky a little.

Alright, the cover does not fit. The stock bridge plate is wider than the Fender vintage (or MIM standard) plate. Taking some measurements to see if I have to order the new plate with saddles, or if these barrels will fit under (I like the brass barrels). I'll try to snap a few pics later on.

Okay, after some more measuring, and comparing to my MIM Jazz;

The HM Squier bridge has a different string spacing (wider), and different hole pattern, so a standard bass bridge wouldn't have fit anyways. The pickup cover sits on the very front of the Squier bridge plate, so I decided to attach it anyways. You can't really tell it doesn't sit flush, and it doesn't interfere with the bridge/string operation at all, so I went ahead and drilled the holes for it and installed it.
