P bass glitch

I came into possession of a Washburn P style bass. I replaced the pots with 500k gibsons and the jack with a switchcraft jack. I soldered the ground to the bridge. All electronics work/sound great.....except I get little squeaky noises from my right thumb resting on the pick up cover. What is the fix? the pups are screwed right to the body with springs over the screws to adjust pup height. I thought of a thunb rest but it is my nature to use the pickup cover as a thumb rest ( I own three fender jazz basses and this is my first p style bass). All help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, I love to play all styles but especially roots, rock, reggae, disco and zydecooooo!!!!

I'm no expert on this though I did have the odd "ping" come through from the p/up springs on my Warwick thumb bass. I found a thin piece of (slightly spongy) packing about 5mm thick and cut it to size of the p/up slot. placed it under the p/up and have had no more "pings" since.

I have a hunch (without being there to examine the bass) that it might be flimsy p/up covers that are responsible?
If so, perhaps finding a way of bracing the walls of the cover for stability so they won't buckle under your thumb pressure and cause squeak (if that's the problem I have to stress!), or (if possible) replace with sturdier p/up covers.

It could be something totally unrelated to this and my advice might be total rubbish, but I'm only trying to help!
