I'm having trouble getting even E string response on the lowest notes from the stock Highway 1 pickup on my P bass and was wondering if anyone knows of a replacement pickup that has better low end response. There are plenty of mids and highs and I suspect that a large part of it is the bass itself because the low end seems a bit low with almost any strings I've tried, but I'd like to compensate for it if I can. A little tighter sound and more punch would be great too. Any pickup suggestions?
I'm kinda new to P basses and both mine and another I've used both seem to have the same thing with the lowest notes on the E string. Is that just the way they are? If it's typical that's fine. I'll learn to work with it instead of trying to compensate for it. FWIW, I've ruled out the amp and speakers because they're fine with other basses.
