P bass pickup height

I know this question has been asked and answered many times on this forum but I am still confused.On a P bass it says the bass side should be 1/8 and the treble side should be 3/32.Does that mean that the pickup that is under the E and A string should be set at 1/8 and the pickup under the D and G string should be set at 3/32?

I think it varies with what strings you use, and how hard you play.

I personally set all my pickups to the highest point to where the strings never hit them during the most aggressive playing that I will do. From there, I’ll lower the louder areas so the sound is balanced with the amp set flat.

Some people say there can be sound issues with them set too close. Either I don’t hear it, or I do and I like the sound.

On a split P style pickup yes, that’s where I usually start. 1/8”’on the bass side and 3/32” on the treble side with the string pressed down at the last fret then adjust as needed to balance the strings and for tone.
