P bass..professional instrument?

Here's a thought..

Im a photohgrapher and the job takes me to many theatres, shows, events etc.

And here's the rub. I dont think I have ever seen a P bass on stage during a stage show, cabaret, or theatre show.

Has anyone any idea why this, cause it seems nowadays most working bass players play five string boutique basses...

Sorry if this seems like Im raining on everyones parade but this is something that I really have noticed.

When I went to see Bryan Adams 3 years ago, his bass player played a P the whole show. Countless people play them professionally.

That's weird...I've never seen a musician playing a 5 string boutique bass on stage in person.

I guess those are not professional instruments.

Often musicians play an instrument that is readily available in that area or market.

At least here in NYC, I see a lot of P's, including...mine! I've been a professional for many years. No one has ever implied that my bass isn't a pro axe. In fact, the trouble begins as soon as I bring anything else, say, a fretless or something "fancy." My Stingray even made a few people suspicious.

I personally don't like P basses (except for that Deluxe P with the MM style humbucker at the bridge), but it's pretty ignorant to say they are not professional instruments. Heck, just simply turn on your TV at late night. You'll see plenty of bands on Letterman/Leno/Conan/Fallon using a P bass. But that being said, all of the bass players for the house bands on those shows use high end boutique basses

Right, a PBass is not a professional instrument, just like a Hasselblad 503CW is not a professional camera.

In the 50's a bassist called himself a "Fender bass player", that is, if he wanted to find work. Only Precision basses were around in the 50's. Troll, go away!:scowl:

I might be wrong but the bass player for Iron Maiden, one of the largest and most well known bands around, plays a P. Can anyone confirm?

The P bass is more like a Nikon D700!
