P/J ... j/P?

How come nobody has made a bass that moves a P bass pickup to a traditional j "bridge" position and a j pup in the neck position?

Hmm... Good point, I have never seen that. Though, I personally don't think I'd be too interested in it. I love the nice thumpy, warmth of the P pick-up in the neck position, and the upper mid growl of the single coil jazz pickup at the bridge.

But, what would a p pup sound like at the bridge?

I've seen a P/P... I'm not sure if that bridge is placed in the same location as a J normally would be. Try to find a recording of that?

I've got a P Elite II. It has the PP configuration. The bridge pickup is a little less bassy and a little more middy. The Blacktop Jazz also has the dual split pickup setup. Here's an older pic of my Elite:
