I take the opportunity if this thread to ask a question. I'll soon start to build a parts basse. First I wanted it to be a PJ bass, since I want a P sound with a bit more articulation and a bit mid scooped.
But the more I think about it the more I like simplicity, and I wonder if an already more articulated P pickup like an EMG, with some mis scoop from a preamp, can come close to a PJ tone? I know that the bridge pickup adds some brightness, harmonics and comb filtering/phase things, but comb filtering/phase isn't what I'd like the most in a PJ!
