p-pickup configuration

I just noticed that my Fender aerodyn's p- pup is set so that the upper half is closer to the neck wheareas my sr300dx's is reversed. The upper half of the p -pup isbehind the lower half. Does any one know if this has a direct effect on tone ar if Ibanez just decided to mix it up a bit so thay have their own thing. Fender Aerodyne's

I'm pretty sure companies reverse the P, in other words the way your Ibanez is, to get a more even tone from it. It puts the bass sides closer to the bridge and the treble side closer to the neck allowing for a more even pickup response across the strings. As far as I know at least that's why.
