That's what Tim C fron RATM does. It's just whatever feels good to you. Personally, I prefer wider necks, but there's no advantage/disadvantage to either.
So, I guess you could put a P neck on a Jazz too. It never really occurred to me, but that might be a good idea.

I put P-necks on all my Jazz bodies.
I just, prefer bigger P-neck. ( fits my hand)
Also, I think extra neck mass.= a little more tone.
I think that nut width is such a small detail, the profile shape (C, shallow C, D, U, asymmetrical, etc) has a much bigger impact.
