PA Speaker Upgrade Ideas?

The EV speakers are comparable to the equivalent range of JBL speakers IME. Not better, not worse, just different.

What do you all think of iNSPIRE ip300? We are in our early 70's give or take a year. Weight and cargo space is an issue more than anything else. I just bought a Behringer X18 and looking to replace my VERY heavy mains (and amps) that I can no longer transport or set up.

Right now the BL is using some old yard sale Peavey 12" passive mains because they are small and light weight. He has a powered mixer that has issues. I've finally got him to let me take care of sound. I am working thru the learning curve of the X18 at home but would like to start live ASAP with active speakers.

Right now we only put three vocals into the PA. With an occasional acoustic guitar. So a sub isn't needed. We really are not that loud (never told to turn down). But in the summer months we do play a lot of out door venues, With a real small and crappy system.

There are lots of reviews on the ip300's but 90% are from DJ's.

For live bands, none of the column speakers have impressed me. I can see how DJs might like them, but they would be a tool more suited to that job.

Many of them are sold as line arrays when they don't have the physical length to do what line arrays do. Often, this is a marketing scheme to get rid of warehouse racks of smaller drivers. At less than 6 feet in length, don't expect actual line array type performance (12-20 feet is even better, but few venues have the room and few bands have the storage for that).

For some of the shows I've done at Embry-Riddle-Riddle, a jazz band insisted on using their Bose columns instead of the PA system I brought because the vocalist liked some of the built-in effects (4 2-way trap boxes with 2"HF/15"LF, 2 2x18 subs, 6Kwatts of amplifier) and it just didn't move air like the rig I brought. It sounded muffled and dull by comparison.
