Parts for mics needed - any help?

I've got a bunch of Shure Beta 56 drum mics, and some Beta 52 kick mics - over the past few years, all the rubber tighten-down gaskets have melted or dissolved into some kind of gooish jelly.

Anyone know a source for replacements? Everywhere I've tried doesn't have/sell them, including Shure themselves (tried that thru 2 different music stores and a local rep.)

If the exact colour isn't absolutely essential, O-rings come in any size.

Yup, not worth it for stores to bother stocking a bunch of orings for mics. Too much bother to order them for you. Go direct. Shure cares if their customers get a competitors mic to replace theirs over a .10c oring. I'd be surprised if they didn't send them out no charge.

Just to be even more clear, are we talking about the bluish/greenish O-ring around the grille, or something else?

No, the black rubber washer by the adjustment knob (for tilt) - goes in-between the metal parts.

If it isn't a standard size rubber gasket, a set of punches and a sheet of any quality rubber will do the trick in no-time.

What are the (assumed) dimensions of that friction plate?

I've used thick cardboard or automotive gasket material for that purpose on more than one occasion.

Thanks Sam, and everyone else for the replies. I'm going to try a few local hardware stores, or maybe Fastenal - I'll post back what I find. And worst case, I'll cut my own.

Easier than pie....

Value Hardware, Small Neoprene Washers - stock # 3813-D (Box # 302)

$0.53/ea

Same for both mics (Beta 56 and Beta 52) - so I bought 10, just to have spares....



Now, the PITA part is the 2 hours with Goo-Gone to remove the (hopefully not toxic) residue of the black gooey melted stock washers..... and hopefully I can get this crap off my hands before my show tonight.....

OK, here's the kicker.....

Today, after completing repairs on all my mics, I was in the process of putting them away, back in my SKB mic case. I have a couple of mic bags holding accessories - adapters, special cables, etc. What did I find in there?

Apparently, when I BOUGHT the mics oh-so many years ago, I decided the design wasn't so great, and that these rubber thingies would fail, so I bought a bag of 12 replacement pcs.....


....too bad they were all melted together into one big blob anyways....
