passive/active circuitry

i have question for electronic wiring in a passive bass. i just purchased a squire j bass that i am moding over time, and i am wondering if there is anyway to install a battery in that passive circuitry even though it does not have a premap? i do know that preamps can help you shape your tone provide a more clear sound etc. but it is at all possible to install a battery just to boost what tone is already there?

This not a reply Iam looking for answers to anew set up On a PB style bass I am upgrading to a dual PB pickup meaning I amadding a second set to Jay Truser bass . Thestandard pickup has a 500k volume and tone pots I am building thid for freind he wants a nice mellow deep sound . which is better 500 k volume 500K tone with a 100 cap or the standard 250 K with same cap . I am open for ideas , thanks

If you just put a battery in there, doesn't matter what you hook it to, it's not gonna do anything. You need active components, such as transistors, jfets, mosfet, opamps, etc, to get any use out of a battery. And even then, you need additional circuitry to allow it to boost the signal. Google "bass preamp circuit". You will find lots of schematics to use if you do want to make your bass active.
